COURTLAND—The Southampton Indians’ baseball team pulled out a 4-3 win in extra innings over Greensville High School in a Southside District contest on Thursday.

Hunter Peck picked up his first win on the mound as he completed the eighth and ninth innings, while Mason Wright had 10 strike outs in the first seven innings on the mound.

Both teams were able score runs in the first inning as Greensville scored on consecutive hits by Austin Wyatt and Wesley Gilliam.

The Indians were able to push Hayden Spalding across the plate in the first, when Tanner Winters dropped a single in to short right center.

The Eagles took a 3-1 lead through to the top of the fifth inning after scoring one run in both the fourth and fifth innings.

The Indians cut the lead down to one, when Winters again knocked in Spalding with a groundout to the shortstop.

Southampton tied the game, 3-3, in the bottom of the seventh when Peck led off the inning with a single and scored two batters later on a wild pitch. In the bottom of the ninth, Peck was able to hit safely again.

Jake Pope ended the game with a single into left field that allowed Peck to score from second base.

The Indians had tallied six hits and made three errors, while the Eagles tallied six hits and made five errors.

The Indians, 2-0, will travel to King’s Fork High School at 5:30 p.m., Friday, April 5.
