Indians baseball wins season opener

COURTLAND—The Southampton Indians’ baseball team was able to defeat the Prince Edward Eagles 12-2 in a Southside District contest on Wednesday.

The Indians (1-0) outhit the Eagles (4-2, 0-1) by a count of 12 to 4.

The Indians were led on the mound by senior Dillon Hasty who threw five strong innings, while giving up the two Prince Edward runs in the third. Prince Edward was able to tally three hits in the third. Hasty walked four and struck out five in earning his first win.

The rest of the day was about the Indians, as they were led offensively by senior Jake Pope, junior Tanner Winters, and sophomore Hunter Peck. Pope was 3-for-3 with a solo home run in the fourth, four runs scored, a stolen base, and a RBI. Winters was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Peck was 2-for-4 with three RBIs.

The Indians host the Greensville High School Eagles Thursday, March 28 at 4:30 p.m.
