COURTLAND—The Southampton Academy baseball team opened the season with a 9-1 win over Surry High School.

“It was a very good game,” said SA Coach Tim Nixon.

“Everyone was able to contribute.”

SA scored all of their runs in the first and second innings.

Junior Tonee Hill went two-for-four at bat for two RBIs, while Jacob Holland had two RBIs off of a triple as he went one-for-three from the plate.

SA pitcher, sophomore Brynner Porter, picked up the win.

“We had four pitchers on the afternoon and they combined for only one run,” Nixon commented.

The Raiders had eight base hits.

SA will host Fuqua School at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, March 14.
