FREDERICKSBURG—Two Southampton High School junior wrestlers advanced to the region tournament on Saturday, Feb. 9, at King George High School after competing in the district tournament on Saturday at Chancellor High School.

Devine Fenner will compete in the 152-pound class after placing fourth and Sam McDonald will compete in the 195-pound class.

McDonald took second at the district meet.

“We wrestled earlier in the year in a tournament in Lafayette, which had a lot of teams in the region,” said Southampton Coach Buddy Whitehurst. “They did fairly well there, so they might have a shot to go to state.”

“Sam is strong at 195 and Devine has a good shot,” Whitehurst added.

“With wrestling, you just gotta be on your game. It only takes a second to get pinned.”
