COURTLAND—The Southampton Academy girls’ basketball team defeated Ridgecroft 41-36 in the opening game of the second annual Battle of the Borders Tournament.

“We played better last night,” said SA Coach Chris Pope. “It was a better performance than we have had recently. We are moving in the right direction.”

Leaders for the winners were junior Anna Carr with10 points. Sophomore Sarah Best added 9.

The Lady Raiders went 7 for 26 from the foul line.

“We need to work on our shooting from the line, but I like that we went to the line that many times. It shows that we are becoming more aggressive,” Pope said.
