WAKEFIELD—Tidewater Academy lost its first conference game of the season 64-56 to Virginia Commonwealth Conference opponent Banner Christian Tuesday.

Despite outscoring Banner Christian in the last three quarters, the Warriors could not overcome a 17-5 deficit in the first quarter.

“You can’t turn the ball over seven times in the first seven minutes,” said TA Coach Walter Westbrook. “We fought back, but we just came out too sluggish.”

The Warriors were led by senior Hunter Haywood with 16 points; senior Kaleb Atkins added 14 and sophomore Payton Holdsworth scored 10. Haywood and Holdsworth had nine rebounds apiece.

The Warriors will host a Christmas Tournament on Wednesday, Dec. 26, and Thursday, Dec. 27, with Stonebridge, Summit Christian and Sovereign Grace HomeSchool.
