COURTLAND—The Southampton High School volleyball team at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5, will host Grafton from the Bay Rivers District for round one of the region playoffs.

The Lady Indians for a second year in a row won the Southside District title, finishing 12-0 and 21-2 overall.

In its final week of play, Southampton on Wednesday defeated Brunswick 3-0. Set scores were 25-13, 25-10, 25-14. The Lady Indians on Thursday defeated Prince Edward 3-1; set scores 25-22, 25-23, 19-25, 25-21.

“We knew they, Prince Edward, were going to give us a battle,” said SHS Coach Chad Brock. “They played us to five sets last time, and we were without starting middle Madison Cabell tonight and Madeleine Kahle is playing with what we think to be a broken finger.”

Despite the injury, Kahle managed 14 kills and three blocks. Samantha Billups recorded 14 assists and 2 kills while Grayson Drake had 16 assists and 8 kills with 3 blocks.

This is the last year the Lady Indians will play Prince Edward because Southampton will be part of the Tri-Rivers District next year with the Virginia High School League realignment. The

Southside district will be dissolved.
