TA wins in first round of VCC tournament

WAKEFIELD— Tidewater Academy’s volleyball team defeated Brunswick Academy 3-0 in the first round of the Virginia Commonwealth Conference Tournament on Wednesday.

Set scores were 25-8, 25-9, 25-16.

The Lady Warriors improved to 13-1 in the VCC and 19-3 overall.

“We played well coming out of the gate,” said TA Coach Jimmy Dunn. “The seniors continue to step up and lead.”

Top players for the winners were senior Cary Beahm, who had 13 kills and 7 aces; senior Falon Williams with 12 kills and 9 digs; and senior Tyler Stephenson, who had 16 assists.

TA at 5 p.m. Thursday will play Fuqua School at Kenston Forest, a neutral court for the semi-final round of the VCC tournament.

“We have to step up and bring our ‘A’ game, we have a tough game tonight,” Dunn said.

Fuqua defeated TA on Tuesday Oct. 16, it was TA’s only conference loss.
