FARMVILLE—The Southampton High School volleyball team came from behind to beat Prince Edward 3-2 on Tuesday and remain undefeated in the Southside District

Set scores were 22-25, 22-25, 25-16, 25-21, 15-10

The Lady Indians improved to 16-2 and 8-0 in the district.

“After defeating Parkview last week to take sole possession of first place in the district, we have been a little flat in practice,” said Southampton Coach Chad Brock. “We carried that to the court tonight and it almost bit us. We have always had a bad habit of starting slow so I wasn’t really concerned with the flow of the first set.”

Down two sets, the Lady Indians came back.

“In the third set, their middles began to wear down and we started to get some balls to go down,” Brock said. “We looked more like ourselves, but there was no quit in Prince Edward.”

The Eagles took an 8-1 lead in the fourth set.

“We slowly worked our way back and found ourselves up 15-8 after seven straight service points from Grayson Drake including two aces,” Brock said.

Junior Madison Cabell finished perfect from the service line, and recorded 11 kills and 1 block. Junior Madeleine Kahle had 19 kills and 2 blocks, and Drake had 21 assists, 3 kills and 5 aces. Junior Samantha Billups recorded 17 assists, 8 kills and was perfect from the service line with 2 aces.

The Indians at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, will host district opponent Greensville.
