WINDSOR—Windsor lost its Tri-Rivers District opener 38-14 to Charles City Friday.

The Dukes fell to 2-5 overall.

“The big plays killed us, and we’ve got to tackle,” said Windsor Coach Chuck Parrish. “Our kids played hard. They play hard every week, but we have got to learn to finish that thing. We’ve been down before at the half and have to come back and finish. We have to learn to finish.”

The Dukes’ first score came with 3:12 left in the half when Sharrod Patterson scored from 1 yard. Tyler Fontenot’s kick was good, making the score 14-7

“Effort was good,” said Parrish, “(We) came out in the first half (and) played hard; we were right there. We just have to make plays in the second half.”

The Dukes’ second scoring drive began at their 38-yard line with 5:38 left in the third quarter. Quarterback Justice Chapman connected with Caleb Dundlow for a 40-yard touchdown pass. Fontenot’s kick — despite being tipped and hitting the cross bar — was good making the score 26-14.

“We are doing some things well,” said Parrish. “We just have to correct the penalties. We had a few in the first half that hurt us. Our effort is there; we just have to execute to match our effort and have to play 48 minutes.”

Chapman had 19 rushes for 74 yards and went 9-for-21 passing with two interceptions and a touchdown. Dundlow had six rushes for 19 yards and had three catches for 44-yards with a touchdown.
