SOUTH HILL—The Southampton High School boys’ cross country team placed second during Wednesday’s Southside District meet.

The girls also took second, one point behind winning host, Park View.

The boys have to win two of the three remaining meets to beat Greensville for the district title, and the girls have to win all three to beat Park View for the district championship. The boys are tied with Greensville for first and the girls are second behind Park View by two points.

As for Wednesday’s boys’ meet, Greensville won with 29 points.

Southampton had 38, Prince Edward 70 and Park View 103.

Top runner senior Daniel Lowdermilk was hurt and took third for the Indians and seventh overall, and No. 5 runner senior Alex Dunlow did not run due to an injury.

“Had they been 100 percent, we would have done better,” said Southampton Coach Scott Edwards.

Overall placing for boys included sophomore Forrest South fourth, junior Kevin Watford fifth, freshman Cole Jarratt 10th, sophomore Enoch Westover 12th, freshman Jacob Joyner 16th, sophomore Cameron McHenry 20th, sophomore Brian Cooke 21st, sophomore Devon Hacker 23rd, sophomore Dylan Beale 29th, freshman Warren Hastings 30th, senior Cody Watson 31st and freshman Connor Whitehurst 44th.
