TAPPAHANNOCK—Franklin senior Grant Scarboro during Monday’s regional tournament missed getting into the state tournament after losing on the first hole of a three-person playoff for the final spot.

“He had one bad shot,” said Franklin Coach Dave Lease. “He came a long ways and he wanted to go to state. I’m very proud of Grant.”

The tournament at Hobbs Hole in Tappahannock ended the season for Windsor and Franklin. Windsor shot a 404 — one of its best team scores of the year. It was only good enough to beat Franklin at 440.

Grant at 82 scored his lowest score of the season during the 36-hole match. Windsor senior Cody Reese, who was named the Tri-Rivers District Player of the Year, shot a 90.

“The Windsor team had a great year,” said Coach Broc Smith “At the start of the season, I was unsure of how many golfers would show as I only had three golfers last year. It was a rebuilding year for us with a lot of unknowns.”

Windsor was undefeated and took the district title.

“My expectations were more than met,” Smith said. “I can’t wait to see how my returning players progress next year.

Both teams qualified for region match during the district golf tournament. Windsor won the tournament at Dogwood Trace Golf Course in Petersburg with a 431. Franklin shot a 457.

Scarboro was named to the All-Region Team.
