SOUTH HILL—Six Southampton High School golfers will advance to the region tournament on Monday, Oct. 1, and Tuesday, Oct. 2, at Ford’s Colony in Williamsburg.

They include seniors Billy Britton, Jordan Francis, Lewis Mayes and Steven Rhinard, and sophomores Brandon Munford and Hunter Peck.

“We’re hoping to have some people qualify for state, especially our seniors,” said Coach Buddy Whitehurst. “I don’t want this to be the last match of their career.”

Mayes missed qualifying for state last year by one shot.

The Indians for a second year in a row won the Southside District title and took second during Monday’s 18-hole district tournament at South Hill. Park View won the tournament with a 316. Southampton followed with 322, Greensville 384 and Prince Edward 410.

Receiving medals for the Indians were Mayes in second with a 78, Francis in third with a 79 and Peck in sixth with a personal best of 81.
