Newsome’s 18 kills leads SA volleyball to win

COURTLAND—Southampton Academy junior Katelyn Newsome’s18 kills led the volleyball team to a 3-1 win over Fuqua Tuesday.

The scores were 19-25, 25-15, 25-20 and 25-21.

Lady Raider Coach Frank Seal said his team, which improved to 4-0, played well after the first game against the Lady Falcons.

“The first game I don’t know where we were,” Seal said. “In the second game, we played the best game we’ve played since I’ve been here.”

Newsome also had five aces. Junior Morgan Pope had six kills and eighth-grader Mason Pope had three kills. Junior Kelsey Whitehead had 15 assists and senior Whitley Smith had 14 assists.

The Lady Raiders take on Kenston Forest at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, in Blackstone.
