ISLE OF WIGHT—A Western Tidewater Regional Jail inmate considered armed and dangerous escaped at 7:30 a.m. Thursday from the Isle of Wight County Fairgrounds, said Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Kristen Wilda.

David Perkins, 22, of Suffolk was working with the County Public Works Department at the fairgrounds on Route 258 outside Windsor in preparation for next week’s county fair.

Perkins escaped after going to the bathroom, Wilda said.

It’s believed his girlfriend, Britney Jane Lee, 22, of Carrollton picked him up in a black 2003 Mitsubishi four-door with Virginia license plate XET 3457.

Recorded telephone conversations from the jail have been reviewed and indicate that Perkins planned this escape and stated, “he doesn’t intend to be recaptured.”

It is believed that Perkins and Lee are headed toward Elizabeth City, N.C.

Anyone with information about their whereabouts or who may have seen this vehicle is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 357-2151.
