To the Editor:

We were told that Phyllis Mewborn of Franklin died on Aug. 12.

We have known and respected Phyllis since 1995 when I was lured from AlliedSignal Corp. in the Richmond area to become technical director at Narricot in Boykins.

Narricot was the largest producer of high strength automotive seat belt and military webbings in North America at that time.

Phyllis convinced my wife, Pam, and myself that Franklin and Southampton County were the best choices of where to live in the area. We lived here with two of our three children and my father and loved it until 2007 when we moved to northern Virginia to be near our grandchildren.

She helped us buy four houses here — two different home sites as we moved from Oberry Church Road just north of town into Franklin after five years.

She also sold us two separate rental houses in Franklin. She sold three of them as we moved, and we still own one of the rentals in town.

She was an ethical, professional and strong business leader who became a very close and trusted friend over the eight years that we lived here. We continued to speak with her regularly, and were shocked and saddened to lose such a good friend.
