Webb’s home run, Holland’s doubles contribute to 8-6 win

PRINCE GEORGE—Mike Webb’s home run and Jacob Holland’s three doubles led Wakefield/Waverly to an 8-6 win over Prince George on Wednesday and qualified the Colts for the winners’ bracket in the double elimination Appomattox River District Tournament.

The first game will be played at 6 p.m. Monday, July 23, at Prince George.

Webb and Danny McKenney each scored in the first inning, and Holland and Charlie Webb each plated a run in the second before Mike Webb’s blast over the leftfield fence in the third inning.

McKenney and Mike Webb each had two RBIs. Holland, Charlie Webb, Dylan Beale and Nate Williams each added one.

From behind the plate, McKenney threw out two runners trying to steal bases and tagged out a runner at home on a ball thrown by Jake Pope from centerfield in the fourth inning.

Holland, Mike Webb, Hasty and Peyton Holdsworth pitched for Wakefield with Holdsworth getting the win. Holland and Webb each eliminated runners with pick-off moves.

Prince George rallied for four runs in the bottom half of the seventh inning.
