PRINCE GEORGE—The Wakefield/Waverly 15- to 16-year-olds lost a doubleheader to Prince George on Wednesday.

Both games ended 4-2 for the Colts, which includes players from Southampton, Surry and Sussex Central high schools, and Southampton and Tidewater academies.

The Colts dropped to 4-2 for the season.

“Each game came down to the final inning,” said Coach Paul Rogers Jr. “These games could have gone either way.”

Rogers noted the boys hit the ball hard, unfortunately right at the other team’s players.

“If a couple of these had found the gaps, we could’ve easily won both games,” he said.

In the first game, Jake Pope hit a triple to the right centerfield fence. Sean Raulston and Brynner Porter went one-for-two, each with a run scored.

In the final inning, the Colts had runners on first and second with one out, but were unable to capitalize on anything.

In the second game, Dillon Hasty struck out seven. Kyle Hooper pitched the final inning, striking out the side.

Hasty was two-for-three with an RBI and a run scored. Jack Bunn had an RBI double to the left centerfield fence.

In action from Monday, the Colts won a doubleheader against Matoaca Red.

In the first game, Porter pitched a no-hit game through five innings, walking three and striking out three to lead the Colts to a 9-1 win.

Pope went two-for-three and scored two runs, and Dylan Beale was three-for-four, also scoring twice.

In game two, Pope and Daniel McKenney combined for a no-hitter, leading the Colts to an 11-0 win.

McKenney was two-for-two at bat with three RBIs. Hasty went three-for-three with three RBIs. Reid Holdsworth hit a double and threw out a runner trying to steal second.
