WINDSOR—An error in the eighth inning allowed No. 3-ranked Essex to score a run and defeat No. 2-ranked Windsor 2-1 in the Region A baseball tournament on Thursday.

The Dukes’ season ended with a record of 12-7 and the Tri-Rivers District title.

“It’s a tough loss,” said Windsor Coach Tim Paschal. “We were very competitive in the game and could’ve won.”

Essex scored first in the fifth inning on a passed ball.

Windsor senior Colt Copeland led off the bottom of the fifth with a double and junior Mason Cobb hit in Copeland to tie up the game.

In the bottom of the eighth, Windsor had two outs and a runner on first. The runner was taken out when he attempted to steal second to end the game.
