Western Tidewater under tornado watch

Western Tidewaer, along with most of the state, is under a tornado watch until 9 p.m.
A tornado watch is issued when conditions are favorable for the development of tornadoes in and close to the watch area.
Severe thunderstorms also are predicted for later this afternoon.
Residents are encouraged to monitor the weather situation. If a tornado warning is issued, people should take cover, moving to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. If outdoors, in a mobile home or vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris.
