Glover, Key repeat on All-State First Team

Isle of Wight Academy pitcher Hailey Glover was named to the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association Division II First Team. The junior went 7-2 on the year with 66 strikeouts and a 1.04 earned run average. SUBMITTED

ISLE OF WIGHT—Isle of Wight Academy junior pitcher Hailey Glover and freshman pitcher and shortstop Bailey Key were named to the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association Division II First Team All-State team.

Glover went 7-2 and was undefeated against Metro Conference competition as the Lady Chargers won the regular season and tournament titles.

Glover had a 1.04 ERA and struck out 66 batters. She also led the team with 29 RBIs, carrying a .507 batting average. Glover was selected as the conference and team Most Valuable Player.

Key had a 7-1 record and led the conference with a 0.52 ERA. She posted five shutouts including a one-hitter in IWA’s 2-0 state quarterfinal victory over St. Margaret’s High School.

Key batted at a .461 clip and was tied for the team lead in hits and runs scored. She was also selected as the team’s Defensive MVP for her play at shortstop.

Earning Second Team All-State honors were senior Kenzie Conner and sophomore Dianne Davis.

Isle of Wight finished the season 20-3, losing to Brunswick Academy 3-1 in the state semi-finals.
