Windsor baseball team takes district title

FRANKLIN—Top-ranked Windsor on Wednesday won the Tri-Rivers District Tournament after defeating No. 2 seed Surry 12-0 in Franklin.

Both teams will play in the Region A state tournament with the first game at 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 30, at locations to be announced.

Windsor’s Gavin Horton pitched a two-hitter and struck out nine. Horton also had two hits.

Griffin Holtz had three hits and two RBIs, and scored three runs. Robbie Stevens had two hits, including a double and an RBI.

For Surry, Timmy Thomas was tagged with the loss.

Thomas was named the district Player of the Year. Surry Coach James Pike was named Coach of the Year.

Windsor also won the district title and is 12-6 overall. Surry is 9-8.
