WINDSOR—Franklin’s varsity soccer season came to a close on Tuesday when the No. 3-ranked Broncos lost 6-2 to No. 2 Appomattox Regional Governor’s School in the first round of the Tri-Rivers District Tournament in Windsor.

The Governor’s School led 3-0 in the first half and Franklin narrowed the lead to 3-2 with second-half goals from senior Tony Bland and sophomore Angel Padilla.

“We just kind of lost our composition,” Franklin Coach Brandon Ivey said about the Governor’s School following with three goals. “They are so skilled. When you have a young team like we do, it’s hard to play a team with so much talent.”

Franklin finished 4-4 in the district ahead of Surry and Chesterfield. Windsor placed first in the district.

Assistant coaches were Heather Eckman, Chris Georgei and Steven Ivey. Elizabeth Whitehead was the team manager.
