PETERSBURG—The Isle of Wight Academy softball team lost 3-1 in a state semifinal game against Brunswick Academy Thursday at the Petersburg Sports Complex.

Pitcher Hailey Glover gave up five hits and struck out six. Glover gave up no earned runs as the three Brunswick Academy runs came on errors.

“We did not play well defensively,” said Coach Chris Hooper.

The Lady Chargers left game-tying runs stranded in the bottom of the seventh inning after pinch-runner Brynna Burchett scored the only run.

The Lady Chargers defeated St. Margaret’s 2-0 in the first round of the state tournament Wednesday.

IWA went undefeated in the Metro Athletic Conference this year and also won the conference tournament.
