SA baseball wins Hobgood tournament

HOBGOOD, N.C.—The Southampton Academy baseball team won the Hobgood Easter Invitational Tournament Saturday at Rocky Mount Academy.

The Raiders scored nine runs in the first inning. Matt Nixon went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, Tonee Hill went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, while Wesley Barnes and Jacob Holland each went 2-for-3.

Barnes picked up the win, pitching five innings and giving up one hit.

In tournament action from Friday, SA defeated Faith Christian 4-3. Holland pitched five innings and gave up two hits. Hill pitched three innings in relief, giving up three hits.

Nixon went 2-for-4 with two doubles.

In the final inning, Nixon scored the winning run on a suicide squeeze from Matt Rose.

SA won a first match against Rocky Mount Friday 15-1.

Rose went 3-for-four with four RBIs in the win.

Barnes and Raulston had two base hits each.

Brynner Porter pitched five shutout innings.
