SA baseball team holds off Surry

DENDRON—Southampton Academy beat Surry 7-6 Thursday, despite the Cougars’ late rally in the non-conference baseball game.

SA’s Matt Nixon and Carson Camp got on base off singles in the first inning and scored.

The Raiders scored four runs in the second inning when Matt Rose led off by getting walked. Nixon hit a double and scored Rose, who had stolen second base.

Nixon was followed by Camp, who walked and then scored on a double by Wesley Barnes. Barnes scored on a single by Ethan Edwards.

Surry did not score until the fourth inning, picking up two runs. The Cougars scored four additional runs in the fifth inning.

Tonee Hill picked up the win. At bat, Nixon went three-for-three, Camp two-for-three and Barnes two-for-four.

The Raiders will host Tidewater Academy at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 27.
