SA girls win softball season opener

COURTLAND—A fourth-inning rally combined with nine stolen bases led Southampton Academy to an 8-1 season opening win over Ridgecroft School on Monday at home.
Lady Raider senior Chelsea Speight pitched a two-hitter and struck out 10 betters.
The game was 1-0 going into the fourth inning. Southampton Academy’s Brigitte Bradshaw hit a standup double and two runs were scored in the inning, giving the Lady Raiders a 3-0 lead.
Bradshaw, senior Rachel Holland, sophomore Katelyn Newsome and eighth-grader Ashton Hinkle had two stolen bases apiece. Senior Beth Waller added one.
Bradshaw and junior Whitley Smith each had two hits.
SA hosted Brunswick Academy on Tuesday. Results were not available as of press time.
