WAKEFIELD – Cary Beahm was exactly half of the offense in Tidewater Academy’s 62-48 win over Roanoke Catholic in the first round of the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association Division III state tournament Tuesday night.

Beahm grabbed eight rebounds to go with 31 points in the game.

The win means the Lady Warriors will face No. 2 ranked Virginia Commonwealth Conference champion Amelia Academy at 6 p.m. Wednesday, February 29 in Amelia.

Coach Ashley Owen said the key in the game against Amelia will be to slow them down on offense.

“If we slow them down and play our game we’ll be alright,” she said.

Falon Williams scored 13 points and grabbed eight boards for Tidewater while teammate Taylor Pruitt added 10 in the win.

Tuesday’s game marked the first time the Lady Warriors, ranked No. 7, have ever hosted a state tournament game. It’s only the second time the team has ever even played in the state tournament.
