IWA boys lose in semis of Metro tourney

PORTSMOUTH-Isle of Wight Academy saw its futility against Atlantic Shores continue Friday night, falling to the
Seahawks 61-46 in the semifinals of the Metro Athletic Conference Tournament at Alliance Christian.
Atlantic Shores plays no.1-seeded Williamsburg Christian for the tournament title at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
IWA, which lost to Atlantic Shores by 8 points in January on Benjamin A. Vaughan Court and has never beaten the Seahawks in
their 10 years together in the Metro, trailed by 12 at the half, 38-26.
But IWA scored the first four points of the second half to cut the lead to eight. Then Atlantic Shores responded, scoring the next 11 points over the next 4 minutes to take a 19-point lead, 49-30.
IWA (20-7) awaits state tournament selections Sunday to learn its opponent and destination.
The Chargers were led by senior guard Ben Epps’ 15 points; Atlantic Shores was paced by Phil Owens 23 points.
Other scorers for IWA were Josh Thomas with 9, Michael McGuire with 7 and Nathan Sivertson with 6.
