WAKEFIELD—Lifted by career highs in points from seniors Lamont Moore and BJ Morris, Tidewater Academy moved into second place in the Virginia Commonwealth Conference with an 84-69 win over Fuqua School Tuesday on senior night.
Moore scored 38 points and Morris added 18.
Other seniors honored were Matt Irving, Zach Borden, Jeremy Seward and Joey King.
If the Warriors beat host Blessed Sacrament Huguenot at 7:30 tonight, Feb. 17, they will lock up a second seed in the VCC tournament.
Tidewater, which is ranked seventh in the state, will host a first-round tournament game at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21. The opponent is unknown as seating has not been finalized.
Coach Walter Westbrook, whose team sits at 17-8 overall and 11-3 in the conference, said he was surprised by the team’s success given it only had four returning players from a team that went to the state semifinals last year.
He said the team has been resilient this year, noting the boys bounced back from a tough 66-28 loss to Williamsburg Christian on Saturday to beat Fuqua Tuesday.
