FREDERICKSBURG—Southampton High School’s wrestlers on Saturday, Feb. 4, will travel to Chancellor High School in Fredericksburg for the Battlefield District Tournament.

The Indians have no competitors in the Southside District so they have to participate in another district in hopes of qualifying for the region tournament, said Coach William “Buddy” Whitehurst.

The top four wrestlers in each weight class will advance to the region tournament.

The Indians expect to have wrestlers for 10 out of 14 weight classes. Two wrestlers were disqualified due to low grades, Whitehurst said.

He believes that most of his wrestlers will have a good chance at advancing and is hoping to see his only senior, Dustin Corbin, qualify in the 220-pound class.

“He’s been wrestling well all year and has the best record on the team,” Whitehurst said.

Corbin is 15-4.
