CHESAPEAKE—Isle of Wight Academy boys could not hold onto a late third-quarter lead against Atlantic Shores, losing 42-34 on Tuesday.

The Chargers were up 22-20 at halftime after taking their first lead with 50 seconds left in the second quarter for the Metro Conference game. The Chargers with 1:46 remaining in the third quarter led 28-26.

The Seahawks rattled off 10 straight points to take a 36-28 lead, which they never relinquished.

The Chargers have never beaten Atlantic Shores in the 10 years the teams have played each other.

Senior Ben Epps led the Chargers with 10 points, while Rainer Marfio added seven.

The Seashawks’ size and foul trouble held Charger Nathan Silvertson in check. Silvertson averages more than 15 points per game, but was held to four.

The loss moves IWA to 14-5 overall and 9-3 in the Virginia Commonwealth Conference.
