COURTLAND—The Southampton Academy boys’ basketball beat Steward School 54-50 Friday to remain undefeated at home this season.

The Raiders improved to 4-0 at home, 5-6 overall and 3-5 in the Virginia Commonwealth Conference.

“This was a really big win for us,” Coach David Gibbs said. “(Steward) has been in the upper echelon of the conference for the past few seasons.”

Gibbs said the whole team played well and made up for a height difference against Steward.

Tonee Hill led SA with 17 points, while Matt Nixon added 14. Carson Camp scored 13 points.

Thomas Taylor and Zach Best both contributed after missing games due to injuries.

The Raiders trailed 11-5 at the end of the first quarter and led 23-17 at halftime and by two going into the fourth quarter.

Southampton Academy made nine, three-pointers, and held Steward to seven offensive rebounds.

“We did an excellent job of holding them to only one shot (after those rebounds),” Gibbs said.

SA takes on Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot at 7:30 p.m. today, Jan. 23, in Courtland.
