LAWRENCEVILLE—The Southampton Academy girls could not overcome a 10-point first quarter deficit in a 53-42 loss to Brunswick Academy.

The Lady Raiders gave Brunswick 26 free-throw attempts during the game.

“We sent them to the foul line too many times,” Coach Chris Pope said.

Pope said the Lady Vikings also had a size advantage in the game.

Lady Raider Rachel Holland scored 18 points, while Beth Waller added 11 and Barclay Gatten added eight.

SA dropped to 5-2 overall and 3-2 in the Virginia Commonwealth Conference.

The Lady Raiders will host Greenbrier Christian Academy at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 10.
