COURTLAND—Southampton High School defeated visiting Windsor 61-39 on Monday night.

Windsor jumped out to a 5-0 lead, but the Indians came back, outscoring the Dukes 14-6 during the remainder of the first quarter and 22-11 in the second quarter.

In the second half, Southampton held Windsor to 10 points, including two in the fourth quarter.

“SHS played an aggressive man-to-man pressure defense, which proved too much for us,” said Windsor Coach Brandon Bossick. “Donovan Cosbert, Justice Chapman and Josh Edwards held Nick Doyle to 14 points. He has been averaging 23, and in my analysis, Doyle is the best basketball player we will probably see all season.”

Leading scorers for Southampton were Doyle and junior Johnny Tribett with 14 each. Doyle led with 11 assists.

For Windsor, R.J. Edwards netted eight points. Cole Daniel and Romello McKeaver led the team in rebounds with six each. Josh Edwards led the team in steals with two.

Windsor fell to 0-5 and Southampton improved to 6-0.

Windsor traveled to Appomattox Regional Governor’s School on Tuesday and Southampton visited Franklin. Results from both games were not available as of press time.

Windsor will be off until the new year.
