Taylor makes double-double in SA loss

CHESTERFIELD—Southampton Academy senior Thomas Taylor scored 15 points and made 12 rebounds in a 76-68 loss to Richmond Christian.

Sophomore Tonee Hill led Raider scorers with 19 points. He added four steals, eight rebounds and four steals. SA senior Matt Nixon had 10 points and two assists. Nixon was 3-of-4 from the three-point line.

Raider Senior Carson Camp had 12 points, three steals and four rebounds. Freshman Matt Rose added eight points.

“For the first game, I think we played extremely well,” SA Coach David Gibbs said. “We played well on defense. We were prepared and we knew they had some shooters.”

Southampton Academy led 16-15 at the end of the first quarter, but was down 37-32 at halftime.

The Raiders fell behind by 18 at the end of the third before storming back to bring the game within six points twice.

“In the fourth quarter we played some of the best basketball I’ve seen Southampton Academy play in a long time,” Gibbs said. “The kids really fought to come back.”

The Raiders fell to 0-1and travel to Tidewater Academy at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6.
