COURTLAND—The Southampton Academy girls’ basketball team defeated Christchurch School 44-7 during Wednesday’s season opener in Courtland.

Barclay Gatten led all scorers with 17 points. Rachel Holland added 16 and had five steals.

“I thought we played defensively,” Coach Chris Pope. “On offense, we had a lot of open shots. I thought for our first game we played pretty well.”

Beth Waller had four steals in the Lady Raiders’ win.

Southampton Academy travels to Richmond Christian for a 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2, game.
