NATURE OF BUSINESS: Chiropractic Applied Kinesiology

PRIOR AND PRESENT LOCATIONS: Illinois 1998-2002, Virginia Beach 2002-present

HOW’S BUSINESS: I was urged to come to Franklin by two patients from here who drove to my Virginia Beach office for seven years. Business in Franklin has been great.

ONE THING YOU WISH EVERYONE KNEW ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS: Over a 100 years old, the premise of chiropractic is based on the understanding that the body was created with an on-board healing mechanism — the nervous system. If there is an “interference” of the nerve flow, that “interference” is removed by an “adjustment” that the chiropractor delivers with their hands or, in my case, a non-force instrument called an activator. This frees up the nerve flow to send healing and repair to the body.

SOMETHING YOU OFFER THAT A PATIENT WON’T FIND ELSEWHERE: I check more than the spine. I am a holistic practitioner. I treat the patient, not the symptoms.

YOUR FIRST JOB: Singlehandedly raised three children by selling advertising, wine and telecommunication.

YOUR ROLE MODEL: My mentor and friend, Dr. Jim Hogg of Davenport, Iowa. In 1990, a friend told me to take my mother, who was experiencing breathing difficulties, to an applied kinesiology doctor. I saw amazing things that day that changed my life forever. Within three months, I was enrolled in pre-chiropractic studies entering Palmer College, Davenport, in 1993, graduating at age 50 in 1997. I studied under Hogg for 10 years.

THE KEY TO A SUCCESSFUL BUSINESS: Be accessible to patients. Promptly return all communication. Work with the deep belief in the body’s natural ability to heal itself. Refer patients if their healing is not making incremental progress.
