White rushes for 122 yards, 2 TDs for SHS win

BRUNSWICK—Senior Jaron White rushed for 122 yards and two touchdowns — one for 33 yards and another for 75 yards — to lead Southampton High School to a 35-0 win over Southside District opponent Brunswick.

The Indians improved their record to 6-4 and 1-2 in the district. Southampton will close its season at home on Friday, Nov. 4.

The Indians had 361 yards on offense, including 355 yards on the ground. Senior Saiquan Mason carried the ball 13 times for 121 carries and one touchdown, while freshmen kicker Russell Balance went 5-for-5 in extra points, improving his season total to 22-for-24.

Mason scored the first touchdown on Southampton’s second possession on a four-yard run with 2:38 left in the first quarter.

White followed with a 33-yard run during the first play of the second quarter for a touchdown.

Junior Trevoris Evans scored from one yard with 6:21 left in the half, giving the Indians a 21-0 lead.

On the first drive of the third quarter, Southampton got the ball to its own 30-yard line and was penalized for a false start, taking the Indians back to the 25. On second and 12, White broke free for a 75-yard touchdown run with 10:25 left in the quarter.

Then on the second drive in the third quarter, Brunswick botched the punt, which Southampton recovered on Brunswick’s 32-yard line. Mason carried the ball for 10 yards and Jerry Wright ran it in for the final score from the 22-yard line.
