SHS boys, girls qualify for Region 1 meet

EMPORIA—Southampton High School’s boys’ cross country team placed first at the Southside District meet Wednesday and qualified for the Region 1 meet.

Also running in the region meet on Wednesday, Nov. 2, at Loriella Park in Fredricksburg will be Lady Indians Kirstyn Andrew, Kelsey Thomas and Megan Owens, who qualified for with their eighth-, 10th- and 13th-place finishes at the district race.

Southampton boys defeated Greensville, Prince Edward and Park View.

Indian Bryan Draper finished fourth with a time of 19:20; Jeffrey Vincent, fifth with 19:51; Kevin Watford, eighth with 20:04; Treshaun Chappell 11th with 20:15; and Daniel Lowdermilk, 12th 20:31. The five also made the All Southside District Team.

Others in the varsity race were Forrest South, who finished 21st with a time of 21:48, and Christopher Dunlow, 23rd with a time of 22:19.

For the girls, Andrew ran the race in 26:28; Thomas, 26:36; and Owens, 27:37. They also earned district team honors.

Others in the race were Ashley Giorgi, who finished 16th; Allie Best, 18th; and Amber Gurganus, 20th.

In the junior varsity race, Alex Dunlow finished first with a 21:39; Brian Cook, second with a 22:07; Dylan Beale, sixth with 22:50; Dylan Thomas seventh with 23:19; and Cameron McHenry, 10th with 24:17.
