SA volleyball team defeats TA

COURTLAND—The Southampton Academy volleyball team finished the regular season at 9-7 with its win Thursday over rival Tidewater Academy on senior night.

The Lady Raiders defeated Tidewater 3-1 with scores of 25-22, 25-16, 21-25 and 25-16.

“Our girls played awesome,” Coach Sarah Nixon said. “They were really pumped and ready to beat longtime rival Tidewater Academy. All season I’ve asked the girls to go out and play 110 percent with no regrets, and that’s what they did.”

Sophomore Katelyn Newsome had 14 kills and four aces. Senior Beth Waller had six kills. Senior Brigitte Bradshaw had 19 assists and eight kills. Sophomore Kelsey Whitehead had 10 assists and junior Whitley Smith had six kills.

Tidewater Academy dropped to 11-5 on the year.

The Virginia Commonwealth Conference tournament starts on Tuesday, Nov. 1. Tournament seeding will be announced Monday.
