COURTLAND—Southampton High School runner Treshaun Chappell led the boys’ team during a Wednesday home meet, placing fifth overall with a run of 20:48.

The boys placed third, with Prince Edward taking first, Greensville second and Park View fourth.

The Southampton girls’ team did not place because only three of the required four varsity runners finished the race.

For Southampton boys, Reece Britt placed ninth with a 21:08; Bryan Draper, 12th with a 21:26; Kevin Watford,15th with a 21:48; and Jeffrey Vincent, 17th with a run of 21:52.

“Bryan Draper had trouble with a cramp yesterday,” said Coach Scott Edwards. “He has been in the top four in every other district meet. The rest of the team had great times. Most of them had season-best runs.”

Other times were Daniel Lowdermilk 22:40, Chris Dunlow 23:03, Alex Dunlow 23:29, Forrest South 23:41, Dylan Thomas 23:47, Dylan Beale 23:59, Brian Cooke 24:16, and Cameron McHenry 24:58. Eighth-graders Cole Jarrett ran a 23:59, and Warren Hasting, a 26:15. Both were personal bests.

Sarah Giorgi and Jessica Fox led the Southampton High School girls, placing fifth and sixth overall, respectively, yet they were ineligible for scoring purposes because they are in eighth grade.

“They both had their best times this season with 26:28 and 26:51,” Edwards said.

The first varsity girl was Kirstyn Andrew in fifth with a time of 27:00 followed by Holley Moore, sixth at 27:43; and Kelsey Thomas, 10th at 28:20.

“All three varsity girls posted their best times of the season,” Edwards said.
