Southampton runners take first

EASTVILLE—The Southampton High School girls’ cross country team took first against Northampton and Arcadia on Thursday.

Top runners for the Lady Indians were Megan Owens, Jessica Heiser, Holley Moore, Emily Fuller and Kelsey Thomas. Eighth-graders Jessica Fox and Sarah Giorgi finished as the top two for Southampton, but could not be counted toward the varsity score.

Also from Thursday, the Southampton boys placed second behind Northampton. Bryan Draper, Treshaun Chappell, Jeffrey Vincent, Reece Britt and Kevin Watford were the top runners.

On Wednesday at Prince Edward, the Southampton girls placed third out of four teams and the boys, second out of four.

“It was a tough course with many steep hills and very muddy conditions,” said Southampton Coach Scott Edwards.

Overall, Draper placed fourth, Chappell sixth, Vincent seventh, Watford 12th, Reece Britt 18th, Christopher Dunlow 20th, Alex Dunlow 21st and Brian Cook 23rd.

Finishing for the girls were Kirstyn Andrew fifth, Thomas seventh, Owens 14th, Moore 15th and Amber Gurganus 17th.

In Wednesday’s junior varsity meet, Forrest South took second, Dylan Beale fourth, Cole Jarrett fifth, Daniel Lowdermilk sixth, Dylan Thomas seventh and Cameron McHenry tenth.
