Newsoms 16U softball team wins 11-1

DREWRYVILLE—Newsoms 16U pitcher Kaylee Harris gave up four hits and had three strikeouts during an 11-1 win over Capron on May 22.

Ashlee Buehner hit a two-run homer to contribute to the effort.

Newsoms led 5-0 after the first inning. Chelsea Pinner started the game with a walk and De Brickhouse hit a single, moving Pinner around. Ashlee Buehner and Katelyn Newsome both walked, and Pinner stole home.

Kaylee Harris hit a fly ball to centerfield that was caught, enabling Brickhouse to score. Heather Bradshaw then hit a single, scoring two more runs. Margaret Gadsby knocked in Bradshaw with her single.

During the second inning, Shelby Felts drew a walk for Newsoms and scored.

No runs were scored by either team in the third or fourth innings.

The top of the lineup was up to bat in the fifth inning. Pinner hit a grounder to shortstop and was thrown out. Brickhouse hit a single, and Buehner hit her home run.

Felts started the seventh inning with a grounder to third and was thrown out. Pinner hit a single to centerfield, and Buehner hit a grounder to shortstop and got on base due to an error.

Newsome drew a walk. Pinner stole home and Harris hit a clean double scoring the last two runs.

The girls’ fast-pitch end-of-season tournaments will begin in June.

The 10U girls will play in Newsoms at 6 p.m. Fridays, June 3 and June 10.

The 13U girls will play in Wakefield at 2 p.m. Sundays, June 5, and June 12.

The 16U girls will play in Courtland at 1 p.m. Saturdays, June 4 and June 11.

The championship games will be held in Sedley on Sunday, June 17. The 10U games will be at 2 p.m., the 13U game will be at 4 and the 16U game will be at 6.
