WINDSOR—Franklin’s soccer team closed the season Tuesday after losing 7-0 to Appomattox Regional Governor’s School in the Tri-Rivers District Tournament.

The Governor’s School was ranked No. 1 and Franklin No. 4.

Franklin finished the season 3-10 and earned its first win in six years, said Bronco Coach Brandon Ivey.

“I’m really proud of them,” Ivey said. “We hadn’t won a game since 2005, and we were able to win three,” Ivey said.

Seven Broncos were named to the All District Team. Chosen for the First Team were Tony Bland and Angel Padilla; Second Team, Victoria Barrett and Darryl West; and Honorable Mention, Deshaun Artis, Grace Cummings, Emmanuel Ricks and Xavier Freeman.

The team will lose seniors Barrett, Artis and Dillon Trotter.

In action from the final regular season district game on May 20, Franklin came from behind to defeat Surry 3-2.

The Broncos were down 2-0 before Bland scored in the first half. Padilla scored in the second half and Freeman made the winning score.
