Windsor ranked No. 3 for regional baseball tournament

WINDSOR—No. 3-seeded Windsor boys’ baseball team will take on No. 2 Middlesex in the regional tournament at 5 p.m. Wednesday, June 1.

As of Friday, it had not been determined whether the Dukes would play at home or travel to Middlesex, said Windsor Coach Ronnie Harry.

Windsor qualified at No. 3 after finishing the season 15-3 and 8-0 in the Tri-Rivers District. The Dukes on Wednesday took a doubleheader to win the district tournament.

In the first game, the Dukes defeated Charles City 13-0 behind Aaron Ashby’s two-hitter and seven strikeouts.

Leading from the plate were Ernie Jump, who scored three times, went 3-for-3 and had one stolen base; Sharod Patterson, scored twice, 2-for-2 and three RBIs; Ashby, 2-for 2 and two RBIs; Colt Copeland, scored twice, 2-for-3 and two RBIs; Horton, scored twice, 1-for-1 and one RBI; and Austin Winkles, scored twice, 1-for-3 and one RBI.

Windsor then beat Sussex 8-3 for the title.

Horton struck out 13 batters and gave up six hits.

Copeland scored three times, went 3-for-4, had five RBIs and two homeruns; Winkles, scored twice, went 3-for-4 and had three stolen bases; Robert Cook, scored once and went 1-for-3; and Horton scored twice, went 1-for-4, and had two stolen bases and an RBI.

Other Dukes named to the First Team were Horton, pitcher and outfielder; Cook, first base; Ashby, second base; and Copeland, catcher.

Named to the Second Team were Winkles, shortstop; and Jump, pitcher and outfielder. Honorable Mention went to outfielder Robbie Stevens.
