Windsor takes district title for second year in a row

SUSSEX—Windsor for a second year in a row won the Tri-Rivers District title for boys’ baseball after defeating Sussex 7-4 on Wednesday.

“I was excited,” said Windsor Coach Ronnie Harry. “It’s a young group of kids that have worked really hard and they deserved it for the work they put in.”

The top-ranked Dukes were 8-0 in the district. They will play at 7 p.m. Monday, May 23, against No. 4 seed Charles City for the opening of the district tournament at Armory Field in Franklin.

Winning pitcher junior Ernie Jump struck out eight Sussex batters and gave up two hits in six innings. Gavin Horton struck out two batters for the save.

From the plate, Cope Copeland went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a triple and four RBIs; Jump, 2-for-4 with an RBI and stolen base; Horton, 2-for-4, with a double, three stolen bases and an RBI; and Sharod Patterson, 1-for-3 with a stolen base.
