ROANOKE—Carson Camp’s 10th-inning single brought home two runners for Southampton Academy, which beat North Cross 8-5 in the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association state quarterfinals on Tuesday.
The No. 7-ranked Raiders will advance to the semifinals in Colonials Heights at 1 p.m. Friday, May 20.
Jacob Holland pitched the entire game for the win against No. 2-seeded North Cross. Holland had nine strikeouts and gave up nine hits.
The game was tied 5-5 at the end of seven innings and both teams went scoreless for the eighth and ninth innings.
In the top of the 10th, Holland walked and Ryan Pittman got on base on an error at second base.
With runners on first and second, Matt Nixon walked to load the bases. That’s when Camp hit a single to bring home Holland and Pittman. Wesley Barnes hit in Nixon for the winning run.
