Out-of-park home runs hurt SA in VCC semifinals

RICHMOND—Two out-of-the park home runs by Kentson Forest School with players on bases netted five runs for the Kavaliers on their way to defeat Southampton Academy 10-0 in the Virginia Conference Commonwealth softball semifinals Friday.
Undefeated Kenston Forest is ranked No. 1 in the state and the VCC, while Southampton Academy was ranked No. 5.
The season’s not over for the Lady Raiders, who are 7-12 and will play in the state tournament at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 17. SA, ranked No. 6, will travel to Broadwater Academy for a game against the No. 3 Vikings.
Against Kenston Forest, pitching was split between Chelsea Speight, Taylor Bradshaw and Katelyn Newsome. Speight had two strikeouts and Taylor made one.
Skyler Goodman hit a double for the Lady Raiders.
The game lasted five innings.
