Home run clinches win for Newsoms

NEWSOMS—Ashlee Buehner’s fifth inning, three-run homer clinched a 9-5 win for Newsoms 16U team over Ivor.

Buehner also pitched six innings, gave up eight hits and struck out 11.

Ivor pitcher Shelby Billups gave up 12 hits and had nine strikeouts.

For Newsoms, Brittany Johnson had two hits, Kaylee Harris had two hits including a triple and Katelyn Newsome hit two doubles.

Buehner received the sportsmanship award.

In other action, Newsoms 16U defeated Wakefield 5-4.

Wakefield pitcher Falon Williams gave up 12 hits and had nine strikeouts.

Buehner gave up four hits, including a home run by Cora Ellis, and had six strikeouts.

Also for Newsoms, Johnson and Chelsea Pinner had two singles each, while Harris had a single and a double, and Heather Bradshaw hit a double and a triple.

Newsome received the sportsmanship award.
